“I’ve been here in the university for six years. I came here when I aged out of foster care at age 18. I graduated in August and I will be starting my Master’s in Public Affairs. #UTRGV has been very supportive of me since I left the foster care system in 2013. When I started school, I suffered from a major depressive disorder and the university became my support system. Statistics say that only 3% of nationwide foster students obtain a degree. I want to be part of that 3% and hopefully, increase that to 90% or 100%. I want to use my degree to better advocate for others. I want to be the voice they don’t have while being in foster care”
