On April 22-23, 2021, the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission in partnership with the Texas Center for the Judiciary hosted the inaugural Judicial Trauma Institute (JTI).
I had the honor to participate on the Learning from the Experts: A Panel Discussion on Lived Experience. Panelists shared their lived experience to help court teams understand the importance of utilizing family and youth voice to improve courtroom practices.
About:
This session was moderated by Judge Rob Hofmann and had both panelists with experience as parents and youth in CPS. The hope was to educate the attendees on how to think about a trauma-informed courtroom from the perspective of parents and youth.
Speakers:
- Rob Hofmann, Judge, 452nd District Court
- Alexandria Fuller, Person with Lived Experience as a Youth in Foster Care
- Monique Gonzalez, Experience as a Parent in the Child Welfare System
- Leroy Berrones Soto, Person with Lived Experience as a Youth in Foster Care
Huge thanks to everyone who made the event possible!
